Authors Patrick Leary, MBA, LLIF, Kathleen M. Kane, CLU, and David F. Woods, CLU, ChFC, will draw from their 2015 Kenneth Black, Jr. award-winning article in the July 2014 Journal of Financial Service Professionals issue, "Reversing the Decline in Life Insurance Ownership". The explosion of new insurance products, new distribution methods and channels, and research that indicates consumers want more life insurance have not produced the sales gains that would normally be expected in such a climate. It will take a significant industry-wide re-commitment to reestablish the essential role of life insurance as the basis of sound financial planning to reverse the trend..

David F. Babbel, PhD, is Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, having previously served as a finance professor at UC Berkeley. He is also Director of Insurance Economics at Charles River Associates.
